Stylish dystopian Metroidvania forma.8 will be heading to iOS and Vita by the end of the year
Time for a probe
MixedBag was hoping to get its atmospheric action-exploration game forma.8 out on iOS before the end of last year.
Well, MixedBag has just confirmed that it will actually be out "by the end of this year."
But there's a good reason for this delay.
MixedBag of newsLast week, MixedBag confirmed that it was releasing Futuridium EP Deluxe for Vita, you see. There's one reason for the unexpected delay, right there.
This week, it's confirmed that forma.8 will be heading to Vita, iOS, PS4, Wii U, PC, Mac, and Linux.
"We've found ourselves working on consoles a lot earlier than anticipated," MixedBag co-founder Mauro Fanelli tells me.
"It's great, but it added a massive amount of work, both on forma.8 and on the new version of Futuridium."
I'll be going hands-on with forma.8, so will be able to tell you all about it very soon.
But if you've got no idea what it is, it's best described as a Metroidvania set within the dark and dangerous caverns of a dystopian future. Oh, and with unsettling sound design and Another World-esque backgrounds.
You play an exploration probe that you can fly at will around the tight rocky corridors and the more expansive scenic areas.
As you slowly gain powers, you'll have to watch out for the native creatures, security systems, and frothing lava. Expect to do battle with huge creatures, to solve puzzles, and for your resourcefulness to be fully tested, too.
