Who would have thought it takes a year to create a puzzle game for iPhone and iPod touch?

But that's how long Antonio Varanda, CEO of developer Candy Cane, reckons it took to come up with Fling!

Previously best known for its Fuzzle puzzler, Fling! extends the gameplay of moving circles around a 2D board as now you have to fling (or push) the furballs that are spread around so that they bump each other off the edge of the screen, until only one's left.

Of course, you can't just throw the furballs directly off the board: this is more of a collision snooker-style experience.

There are three gameplay modes.

Free Play lets you go at your own pace, and the game tracks your stats in terms of which puzzles you've solved and which you've failed so you can go back to those you’ve passed over.

The Arcade mode is a race against the clock, in which you have to solve as many puzzles of ever-increasing difficulty before the time runs out.

Finally, the Challenge mode has you solving sets of puzzles within a given amount of time to make progress, while also trying to beat your personal best times for each level.

Thanks to the game's randomisation mechanism, Varanda promises no two puzzles are the same, although each has a single, unique solution. The puzzles are split into 19 levels of increasing difficulty.

Sounds like it should keep you going for a while.

Fling! is out now, priced $1.99 or £1.19. Hit the Buy It! button to go direct to the App Store.
