FIFA 19: Best mobile football games to play instead
No FIFA 19 on mobile? No problem
FIFA 19 has landed on console and PC, presenting what will undoubtedly be the biggest football game of the year.
We've reviewed the game on Nintendo Switch, and it proves to be a decent entry to the console's roster - if not quite the full-on experience we might have hoped for.
Whichever platform you might be hoping to get the game on, though, mobile won't be among them. EA long ago gave up bringing an annual version of its glossy football game to iOS and Android.
So what do smartphone-owning footy game fans do if they want to play FIFA 19, but don't have a console or PC to play it on? Check out these alternatives, that's what.
1
FIFA Mobile
There's no FIFA 19 on mobile, but that doesn't mean there's no FIFA. A couple of years ago, EA opted to release FIFA Mobile - a slick mobile version that could be updated as and when needed.
It's not as good as the console versions - you could argue that no traditional football sim could be with all-touch controls. But it remains a remarkably slick, playable experience.
FIFA Mobile is the most obvious FIFA 19 alternative on mobile. But it might not be the best...
2
PES 2018
Ah yes. The old FIFA vs PES debate. But whereas on console, a debate can conceivably be had on this point, that's not really so on mobile.
PES 2018 on mobile is a way more playable football game than FIFA Mobile. It captures more of the spirit of the console game, for the simple reason that it's based on the same engine.
As a result, the football in PES 2018 simply feels more fluid than with its great rival. It arguably gets closer to FIFA 19's level than FIFA Mobile.

Super Soccer Champs 2018
We've established that FIFA's brand of console-like football doesn't translate too easily to mobile. But there are alternative approaches.
Super Soccer Champs 2018 is a flat out better game than both FIFA Mobile and PES 2018, and it achieves this feat by looking back to a previous generation for inspiration.
It evokes the spirit of home computer classics such as Sensible Soccer and Kick Off - which means a deceptive level of depth and challenge despite its basic top-down graphics and arcadey controls.

Football Manager Touch 2018
If you're all about football authenticity, digging into the complete rosters of real players playing for genuine teams, then there's only one other game that rivals FIFA.
Football Manager Touch 2018 doesn't offer the slick football action of EA's juggernaut. It's a management simulator. But it does have all the names and logos in their right place.
In fact, FM's approximation of the beautiful game is way more faithful and engrossingly deep than FIFA 19's, with a formidable level of tactical scope.
