iOS 5 tips - How to set custom sounds, ringtones, and vibrations with iOS 5

iOS

iOS 5 - the operating system feature bump for up-to-date iPhones, iPod touches and iPads - is now available to download, and it comes with about 200 or so nifty new features to enjoy.

With iOS 5 you can have unique tones for tweets, emails, messages, and more. Hit Settings> General> Sounds to find the options to tweak each noise. I like Caylpso for new mail, but hey, it's up to you. If you're on iPhone, you'll also find a button to "Buy More Tones", where you'll be taken to iTunes.

Now here's something very cool: you can set custom vibrations for each contact so your iPhone will be all vrrt-vrrt when your Mum phones, but all vrrt-vrrrrrrt-vrt-vrt-vrrrt when your editor calls, demanding to know why you've missed a deadline.

Go to Settings> General> Accessibility and turn Custom Vibrations on. Now load your contacts app and find someone worthy of a custom buzz. Hit Edit> Vibration> Create New Vibration. Here you can tap out a beat on the screen, play it back, and hit save if you want to keep it.
