So you've been successfully sold on Apple marketing and are wearing your hoodie and scrolling through your iPhoto collection when you fancy a game of online Mario Kart. Oh no! You realise your official Nintendo wi-fi dongle doesn't work with OSX, and you're too embarrassed to tell your PC friends you've run into a snag? Pocket Gamer to the rescue!


You'll be using your Airport card to connect to the DS, so make sure you're connected to the internet by some other means, such as an Ethernet wire. Open the System Preferences window. Use DS wi-fi with Mac 1

Click on Sharing, then on the internet tab. Change Share Your Connection From: to Built-in Ethernet. Under To computers using select the Airport box. Click Airport options and add an easy to remember name. We used 'ds'. Go to the internet sharing panel and click start. Use DS wi-fi with Mac 1

Open Finder and click on Applications. Click the arrow next to Utilities and double-click Terminal in the list that appears. Use DS wi-fi with Mac 3

Type ifconfig en1 in the Terminal window. In the list that appears look for an entry reading 'inet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask'. All those x letters represent numbers you'll see on your screen – these are the IP address you need to type into your DS. Note them down. How to Homebrew using NoPass method pic4

Type dig in the Terminal window. Near the bottom of the output it will say Server: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. These numbers are the DNS server you need to type into your DS in the following step.

Follow our DS wi-fi How To guide, this time choosing your settings manually. The SSID should be 'ds', or whatever you chose earlier. IP is the address you obtained in Step 04 above, with the last set of numbers incremented by one (so, for example, if it was 3, change it to 4). The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0. The gateway is the IP address from Step 04 above unedited, and the primary DNS is the number you got in Step 05. Set auto-obtain DNS to 'No'. Phew! Be sure to save your changes.
