It's sadly rare that we get to quote senior politicians' views on mobile gaming, so when an opportunity comes along, it demands to be grabbed with both hands.

So, here's London mayor Boris Johnson holding forth about a new mobile and iPhone game:

"In London we throw away so much rubbish that could actually be recycled - it is an important resource which is simply being chucked away. I am very excited that the new Recycle for London campaign is using innovative technologies to boost recycling and my message is to starve your bins and recycle, recycle, recycle."

You'll be needing some more details. The Recycle for London campaign has teamed up with mobile firm Incentivated to release a mobile game called Evil Bin.

On iPhone, the game involves starving an evil bin by catching recyclable waste in a separate green bin, by tilting the handset from side to side. There's also a Java version available.

Incentivated commercial director Robert Thurner thinks that using a game in this way could be the new thing for charities.

"Adding a mobile game with a viral element to the mix is a smart move by Recycle for London. The game is intuitive and fun, and reflects a fast growing trend by brands to harness the advances in mobile technology which mobile users are now adopting readily."
