Fancy saving Earth from hordes of invading aliens just like Will Smith in Independence Day?

Well, now you can from the comfort of your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. German outfit Fishlabs has teamed up with developer ANIMA Entertainment to release Earth Defender, an arcade action game which, from the title, is self-explanatory.

Precisely what these aliens have come to pester Earth about isn’t clear, but there seems to be plenty to get one’s teeth into as you blast your way through the game, destroying opponents with a varied arsenal of weaponry.

Using blast bombs, black hole bombs, and electric lightning bombs, higher scores are achieved using Boomshine-esque tactics where you chain together explosions to make really big explosions.

Indeed, you can use up to five fingers with multi-touch to make some dexterous bangs. And if all else fails, just unleash one of your super-bombs.

Earth Defender boasts six levels of difficulty, 14 different types of enemies, and eight boss battles. There are also 20 OpenFeint achievements gained by the skilled placement of bombs and chain reactions, and you can post your scores to Facebook.

Earth Defender is available for iPhone and iPod touch at a price of 99c/59p.

You can see how it plays in the following video.
