Whoever makes those flimsy newsagent puzzle books had better take early retirement, because the near-monopoly is over: Crosswords DS is here.

We've already given it a thorough preview, but here's the bite-sized version. There are more than a thousand crossword puzzles, as well as several difficulty levels and a multi-layered hint system that lets you trade clues for seconds on your finishing time.

There are also more than 200 word searches for those whose mental range is limited to looking for things, and a game involving anagrams.

"Crosswords DS brings crossword puzzles into the 21st century in a way that's accessible to everyone," says Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales and Marketing. "And because Nintendo DS is so light and portable, you can play it anywhere at any time."

Good pitch, Dunaway. Click 'Track It!' to see if the story goes any further.
