Chopper 2 now shooting up the App Store
Go universal with more gunship action
It's 12 months since the original Chopper game was released for iPhone, but now it's back.
The work of solo developer David Frampton, Chopper 2 is a universal app for iPhone and iPad that has you flying and fighting your way through 36 levels of whirlybird action.
As before, you tilt your iDevice left and right to move laterally, and forward and back to hover and vary the altitude of your gunship. Machine gun fire is triggered by tapping on the screen and bombs (where available) via a touch button.
Blades of gloryIn terms of levels, there are four themes - Desert, Snow, City, Hills - each of which contains three locations and each of which is broken down into three missions. These must be completed in one sitting as you can't save between missions.
Most of these employ the traditional 'shoot everything up and pick up some friendlies along the way' gameplay. Others require you to make it through without attacking any targets, or escort tanks, or defend your base.
It all makes for a good mixture of action, and thanks to the vulnerability of your helicopter to ground fire it's surprisingly tricky to complete.
Another nice touch is that thanks to the game's universal format, if you have an iPhone/iPod touch and an iPad, you can, via Bluetooth, use your iPad as the screen and your iPhone as the controller.
Chopper 2 is out now priced $2.99, €2.39 or £1.79.
