So, Glu Mobile is re-releasing Centipede next spring. But after some pleasant years (and profitable ones for the publishers of certain best-sellers), haven't we moved on from retro arcade games on mobile?

"We're taking a different approach with our retro titles by incorporating the elements that made the original games successful and adding the quality of gameplay and graphics that today's consumers expect," argues Glu's Jill Braff.

Thus Centipede 2007-vintage sees new features join the venerable template (which concerns a multi-part beastie entering the top of the screen and you blasting him into smithereens before he reaches the bottom). These tweaks include extra themes, power-ups (50 pairs of magic boots?) and beefed-up graphics and controls.

And at least Centipede boasts the real licence, rather than simply being a dodgy substitute like all those endless Breakout clones.
