King celebrates its 20th anniversary as Candy Crush Saga reaches its 15,000th level

King, the developer behind mobile hits such as Candy Crush Saga, Farm Heroes Saga, and Candy Crush Soda Saga, is celebrating its 20th anniversary, which coincidentally arrives at the same time as the 15,000th level in Candy Crush Saga.

Though it's not arrived yet, the 15,000th level will become available for everyone to play, regardless of their overall progression, thanks to an in-game event. It's also been created by the newest designers on the team, a tradition King has maintained for milestones since the 2000th level.

Candy Crush Saga has taken the company further than the original founders ever imagined, with over $20 billion in revenue and over five billion downloads. And, despite the seemingly single-player nature of the game, King hosted an All Stars tournament with a $250,000 prize pool and limited edition rings from jeweller Icebox.

With over 200 million active players, Candy Crush Saga has played a huge part in King's success, but other titles in the company's stable do very well, like Farm Heroes Saga, which turns ten next year. Look out for our interview with Sabrina Carmona, Vice President on Farm, to learn more about how the match-3 has remained popular over the last decade.

Going forward, King hopes to leverage advances in AI to improve player experience across their roster of puzzlers. The hope is to create more compelling gameplay alongside understanding how players interact with whatever they're playing at the time.

Speaking about the 20th anniversary, Tjodolf Sommestad, President of King, said: "Reaching our 20th anniversary is a mark of the incredible passion and dedication of the entire King team to our mission of making the world playful.

“As we turn our attention to the future we'll continue to strive to make our games the best they can possibly be and give players more of what they want. With a history of success and a bright future ahead, King looks forward to delivering many more years of fun gameplay and memorable moments for our players.”

Candy Crush Saga is available now on the App Store and Google Play as a free-to-play game with in-app purchases. You can download it for your preferred platform using the link below.
