A team of veteran developers from the Final Fantasy series has teamed up and released the iPhone-only RPG Border Walker onto the Japanese App Store.

The team includes Kazushige Nojima, scenario writer for FFVII and VIII; art director for FFVI and IX, Hideo Minaba; and composer for almost every Final Fantasy title, Nobuo Uematsu.

The battle system for the game works around an unusual grid-based system, while sub-missions allow you to unlock further skills to use in the battle.

The game’s world is split between Day and Night, effectively two different worlds in one, with your main character able to move between the two in order to bring the lands back together.

Border Walker is out now in the Japanese App Store for 900 Yen [download]. No word yet on if it’ll receive a western translation, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any further information.
