Considering the slomo meltdown that was ITV's Love Island, you'd think Codemasters might be considering a renaming exercise for its fun mini-game collection, Bliss Island.

On the other hand – given Bliss Island's main character is Hoshi the Zwooph, a small blue fluffy creature with a long trunk – it could consider making the game into a filthy cartoon version of the ITV snore-fest.

Just imagine: a small, angry, pink Sophie Anderton with huge gak-coated nostrils!

Maybe not.

Back to the real Bliss Island, and the PSP version that we learned today was on the way from print newspaper MCV.

Being developed by quirky gamemaker Pompom (creator of the psychedelic Xbox shoot-em-ups Space Tripper and Mutant Storm), the PSP version is based on Codemasters' Bliss Island PC casual game, which you can check out for free at funsta.

(Note: Our screens above are also taken from that PC version).

Played from a topdown viewpoint, the gameplay is all based around the aforementioned Hoshi's trunk. For example, you move him around by expelling high velocity air from his trunk, and control your direction using the PSP's analogue nub.

You can also use Hoshi's air-blowing powers to move objects around in the various mini-games. Fruit Slam Dunk sees you diverting pieces of fruit into the hungry mouth of the island-dwelling Jigoka monster, while Fluffy Mayhem is all about saving flowers from swarms of hungry aphids.

With over 90 levels and multiplayer puff-matches promised, there should be enough to keep anyone occupied over the Christmas period when the game is out.

Because – let's face it – there's isn't going be anything worth watching on ITV.
