War may be hell, but BeatDefense looks to prove that the devil has the best tunes.
Combining elements of Missile Command with rhythm action, missiles fly in towards an 8-bit city as a catchy synth-dance soundtrack blares in the background.
Each flurry of strikes is preceded by a series of bleeps, which inform you of the sequence of hits.
This tips you off half a second before auto-targeting squares appear on screen. All you need to do is tap these squares when they turn red to destroy the missiles.
It's a fun system, but its fatal flaw is that the action doesn't seem to match up to the track playing in the background, meaning you never really get into the game's groove.
Add in a limited array of tracks and a lack of additional components, and you have a game that just falls short of its target.
