Beat Da Beat is a shmup that tasks you with gunning down pixelated foes in space while avoiding their rhythmically blasted shots.
You shoot automatically and slide your thumb around the screen to control movement. It's a solid and responsive system but the shooting itself feels incredibly lifeless.
You'd expect that rhythm behind the enemy projectiles would help you avoid them, but the beat is purely aesthetic. It's a bit disappointing that the system wasn't made a core aspect of the game like in BIT.TRIP RUN! or Planet Quest.
If you're really into your shmups, the rhythm aspect and gorgeous pixel graphics might be enough to make you to stick around but Beat Da Beat doesn't do enough to persuade non-fans that they're missing out.
