US studio Liquid Entertainment is best known for its Battle Realms PC strategy series, and now it's announced it's bringing a version of the 2001 release to mobile; iOS and Android.

Reinventing the experience though, it will be a collectible card game that's set within the Battle Realms universe.

Laying down the game

Based around four conflicting clans (Dragon, Serpent, Wolf, Lotus), the basic flow sees you training peasants into soldiers, which you then cross train to upgrade to different or more elite versions.

For example, training a peasant in the archery range would turn them into an archer, who could then be upgraded to a fire archer in the fireworks factory.

"Maturing mobile platforms like iOS and Android allow us, for the first time, to translate the Battle Realms universe into an addictive, unforgettable card game you can enjoy anywhere, anytime," says Ed Del Castillo, Liquid's president.

"It's been an undying dream of mine to allow gamers to gather socially and play games together again, and the technology is finally here to make that possible."

"The new Battle Realms is the first in a full slate of products based on this very deep, engaging IP," added Holly Newman, Liquid's CEO. "Starting with mobile is the best way to re-introduce the Battle Realms universe to a whole new generation of gamers."
