Battle Dungeon rises again on the App Store after being killed by piracy

After been forced to shut down Battle Dungeon's servers last year due to piracy, Scottish developer Hunted Cow Studios has just re-launched its turn-based strategy game on the App Store.

Originally released last November as an asynchronous multiplayer experience on iOS, Battle Dungeon has been resurrected as a single-player-only affair.

Within a week of its launch, you see, the game had vanished from Apple's digital marketplace due to Hunted Cow's servers being overloaded.

This issue, the dev claims, wasn't caused by legitimate players, but rather by a crippling influx of users playing pirated copies of the game.

Given Battle Dungeon's enemy AI lived on the servers, however, the decision to shut the servers down killed the game completely.

Not to be deterred, the Battle Dungeon team set about re-purposing the game for a single-player audience.

Lo and behold, the finished product, entitled Battle Dungeon: Risen, is 'back' on iOS. It features improved visuals, and contains 12 new solo scenarios for players to tackle.

It's cheaper, too, with Hunted Cow replacing the original's £2.99 / $4.99 price tag with an introductory sticker price for this new version of £1.49 / $1.99.
