Table tennis is fun, but it could be considered a bit tame for some. So how's this for a novel addition to a table tennis tournament: the losers get executed!

We can see it (or hear it) now. Tip, tap, tip, tap, tip, tap, tip, tap, tip… bang. Brilliant. It would certainly get the players taking it seriously.

Obviously, we're not just typing down the ideas floating about in our heads here. In fact, this isn't even on the shortlist of things to do at this year's Pocket Gamer Christmas party. Rather, it's the premise of newly announced Zoo Digital game, Balls of Fury. A game based on the film of the same name, starring Dan Fogler and Christopher Walken.

As the screenshots show, the game's basics are looking like a standard game of ping pong (albeit one played by burly gangsters). And seeing as we lost many weeks playing Rockstar's Table Tennis on Xbox 360 and there don't seem to be any plans to bring that to DS, we're more than happy about this announcement.

You play as one of eight stars from the film and the game incorporates a two-player mode, so you can sentence a friend to death by ping pong.

That's not a sentence we'd ever thought we'd write.

If you want to live, get practicing because those furious balls aren't too far away – the game is due for release on the October 26th.
