Rovio, the Finnish studio behind Angry Birds and Amazing Alex, has launched a new game on iOS and Android. It's called Bad Piggies, it's set in the same universe as Angry Birds, but this time the pigs are the heroes.

In this game, you're charged with building cars, planes, and other contraptions that will ferry the pigs across bumpy landscapes in search of those ever-elusive eggs. There are different goals to achieve along the way, and secret items to find.

In our Silver Award review, we said "Bad Piggies is certainly good fun", and decided it was "better than Angry Birds, far better than Amazing Alex, and of the same quality - in imagination, personality, and smarts - as the wonderful Angry Birds Space".

Now, you can try the game for yourself. On iOS, there's a 69p / 99c version for iPhone (sadly, no support for the iPhone 5's widescreen at this time), and a £1.99 / $2.99 HD edition for iPad (with Retina display visuals for owners of the new iPad).

On Android, the game is free but supported by adverts. There's a standard edition that should run on most phones, and an HD version for tablets and monster-screened phones. There's no paid 'premium' version yet.

Both versions contain in-app purchases. You can pay a mechanic pig to come in and build a vehicle for you. You get three free tokens for Liking the game on Facebook, and then additional tokens come in packs, priced $1.99, $5.99, and $9.99.

Though, why would you need that when we've got a massive and ever-evolving guide to help you through the game? Read it here.

Coming soon

Bad Piggies is also available on Mac and PC, with a Windows Phone version coming soon. Also, all versions will receive free extra content in the future.

"We've never done anything like this," Petri Järvilehto, EVP of games at Rovio, said. "Where Angry Birds was all about destruction, Bad Piggies is all about the joy of construction. It's not just about getting three stars - in this game, failing is almost as much fun as succeeding."
