Super Obstacle Boy is a hardcore platformer for iOS with a violent cruel streak
Super-hard
Super Obstacle Boy is a thing of great beauty. It's also painfully ugly.
It's an aesthetic conundrum wrapped in a blocky enigma wrapped in a hateful platform game that will make you swear and spit.
Each level is a bite-sized chunk of platforming agony, you see. In these levels, you have to lead a blocky little creature through a series of increasingly difficult obstacles.
To begin with, you've only got bottomless pits with which to contend. Then, the spikes come along. Oh, AND you have to grab coins.
The further you get into the game, the more bad words you're going to be screaming to the heavens.
This is a game of quick restarts and twitchy plunges through razor-edged canyons of blocky anguish.
There's a sharp retro look to this game, all bright colours and insistent corners. This adds to the haze of unease that hangs over the whole game.
There's a rich meaty vein of misery-platforming for masochists to 'enjoy' in Super Obstacle Boy. It's available on the App Store right now for £1.99 / $2.99.
There should be an Android version available in the not-too-distant future, by the way. We'll let you know when it surfaces on Google Play.
