We had almost forgotten that PlayStation Network favourite Joe Danger - a cartoony, side-scrolling motorbike game - was heading to iOS.

But, Sean Murray, of British indie developer Hello Games, has just reminded us of its existence, and has assured us that the touch-friendly version is just over the horizon.

"Things are going really well though, and to all that people who keep asking us when it will be finished, the answer is real soon!" Murray wrote on the Touch Arcade forums. "It's all falling into place."

High voltage

If you were wondering why it's taking Hello Games so long to port Joe Danger over to iOS, just blame the endless array of new devices from Apple.

"We've tried to optimise and enhance the game specifically for each device," Murray explains.

"What that means is adding loads of things like widescreen support and enhanced graphics for iPhone 5 and new iPad, and normal mapping and gorgeous lighting [for] newer devices like the iPad mini."

Joe Danger will also take advantage of Game Center challenges, and Hello Games has taken the time to bake the functionality directly into the game.

Joe Danger Touch

So, you can challenge your friend to topple your high score on any level in the game, and when your buddy receives the challenge "the game will detect it and take you straight to the right event, even if you haven't unlocked it yet".

Consider us well and truly stoked. We can already imagine the Pocket Gamer infrastructure being crippled as the team gets stuck into another heated score battle.

We'll keep a close eye on this one, and let you know when it's available. Sounds like an early January release to us.
