NFC is still a bit of a 'meh' technology to many. Even though its 'killer' application of making payments easier has yet to resonate with a mainstream audience, it does offer other day-to-day benefits.

Sony Mobile is about to showcase some of these, such as using Smart Tags to trigger actions, via a new television advertising campaign.

In the first advert, posted below, the simplicity with which you will be able to activate an NFC-enabled Sony speaker with a single tap of an Xperia S is demonstrated.

In October, Sony will begin advertising how NFC can be used to share images by just touching two mobiles together.

Okay, so it's not a feature unique to Sony products, but considering NFC isn't something the average consumer has been made aware of, it's good to see someone, anyone promoting it.

He always had a hunch mobiles would become quite popular, but possibly didn't realise how powerful (and, ironically, returning to 20 minutes between charges). Jonathan's job is to continue advising on the best hardware to buy, in order to enjoy games that have advanced considerably since those long days and nights testing Double Dragon on the C64.
