Droid Gamers has discovered that a number of Gameloft titles run in a broken or buggy state when played on the beta ROM of Ice Cream Sandwich for Xperia Play.

Of the nine games tested, only two worked as expected, while the other seven displayed graphical glitches, crashes, or control issues – often rendering the titles unplayable.

Bug reports

Of course, when Sony Mobile released the beta ROM in question, the firm was clear that the beta was only for 'advanced developers' rather than the general consumer.

Furthermore, Sony Mobile solicited feedback regarding the gaming experience on ICS for Xperia Play, suggesting that Sony Mobile fully expected compatibility issues.

Sony Mobile asked beta users to submit game feedback in the form of answers to questions, such as, "Did the buttons work properly? Did the touch pads work properly? Did you experience any lagging?"

Right of reply

We contacted Gameloft for comment, and were told that the company is taking steps to ensure its games run well on the final release of Ice Cream Sanwich.

A representative explained, "[Gameloft will] work closely with Sony to ensure a high quality gaming experience on Xperia Play Ice Cream Sandwich."

In fact, some of its titles have already been optimised for ICS. "The two games we preloaded on the device last year (Apshalt 6: Adrenaline and Star Battalion) have already been updated for compatibility."
