At the launch of the new iPad last week at Apple's flagship Regent Street store, a Dynamo PR exit poll revealed that only 397 eager customers turned up.

To put that number into perspective, 451 people turned up to the launch of the original iPad and 632 queued up to get their mitts on the iPad 2.

Despite the lower-than-normal turnout, though, Apple has confirmed that it has shifted around three million units of its new iPad since it went on sale last Friday (March 16th).

According to a press release issued by the Cupertino-based company, that means the new tablet has enjoyed the "strongest iPad launch yet". Not too shabby, after all.

Words of wisdom

"The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold - the strongest iPad launch yet," Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said.

"Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can't wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday."
