WSJ: iPhone 5 'wasn't ready in time' for June, September launch likely

The Wall Street Journal has cited sources claiming that iPhone 5 will arrive in September.

According to the site, it was originally due to arrive in June, but it, "wasn't ready in time". The launch could be delayed further if manufacturer Hon Hai can't improve its touchscreen yield rate.

"The touch-screen devices are so thin. It's really difficult to install so many components into the iPhones and iPads," Hon Hai chairman Terry Gou told the Wall Street Journal. "We hope to raise the yield rate and volume in the second half, which will help improve our gross margin."

Apple is reportedly anticipating a massive boost in iPhone sales. Suppliers have been told to expect 25 million units to be sold by the end of the year.

WSJ predicts a less explosive arrival, “because analysts don't expect the device to have the kind of major improvements and design changes that will persuade current iPhone owners to upgrade their devices early.”

The site echoes previous rumours concerning the iPhone 5's specifications, claiming it will be, “similar to the current iPhone 4, but thinner and lighter with an improved eight-megapixel camera.”
