E3 2011: Hands-on with Puzzle Agent 2
Brain food
'If it ain't broke, don’t fix it' definitely applies to Telltale Games's update to the quirky adventure Puzzle Agent 2.
We got some hands-on time with this cerebral game and were pretty pleased that its predecessor's unusual style hadn’t been tinkered with.
As with the original iPad game, FBI investigator Nelson Tethers visits a quiet Minnesotan town to look into very suspicious activity. He gets clues by solving increasingly difficulty puzzles.
This time around, he hopes to wrap up loose ends from his original case. Fans should note that this will be the last game set in Scoggins, Minnesota, so all questions will be answered in Puzzle Agent 2.
Mind hackTelltale Games promises up to 40 puzzles, and the ones we tried were appropriately diverse, intuitive, and devious.
For instance, one required using a single slice to remove all the chain locks on a door, while another made us move furniture, Tetris-style, to create a safe pathway for Tethers.
Puzzle Agent 2 uses the same system as the original game, so hints can be earned by solving previous puzzles and each puzzle rates you on your speed and tenacity.
We’re also thankful that the Graham Annable visuals and oddly scripted characters are back. It definitely retains the look and feel of the original game.
We hope Telltale Games, which released Puzzle Agent as part of its Pilot Program focused on new IPs, will continue to support original content.
Puzzle Agent 2 for the iPad will be out on June 30th for £3.99 / $6.99 / €5.49.
