Worms 2: Armageddon dropping onto iPhone soon
5, 4, 3, 2, 1...
Any Worms fan still frantically checking the App Store for that elusive online multiplayer feature Team17 promised last year will get a nice surprise today. A surprise, that is, in that it's not the elusive online multiplayer feature.
Worms version 2.0.4 is a celebratory update, bequeathing upon us lucky chaps a new landscape theme (Medieval) and two new speechbanks (Wildlife and Movie Trailer) for free.
[Update: Team17 is actually celebrating its Golden Joystick nomination, in honour of which it's reduced the price of Worms iPhone by 40 per cent for a fortnight. Download Worms here.]
But what is Team17 celebrating?
Well, it turns out that the esteemed Leeds-based developer is preparing another assault on Apple’s wonder wireless in the bullet-like shape of Worms 2: Armageddon.
In fact, the very first time you now launch the Worms app post-update, a promo banner for the critically acclaimed (on console) Worms 2: Armageddon unfurls itself, suggesting that the game has already been released. Which it hasn't.
When Worms 2: Armageddon does arrive on the iDevices, you can expect a single-player campaign with 30 new missions, a Training mode, a shop, and, most importantly, six new weapons, including the lightning strike and the beautifully named super bunker buster.
The original Worms for iPhone title pocketed a Bronze Award last summer, so here’s hoping its sequel can go one or even three better.
