We’re all really excited about getting our hands on the upcoming 3DS, so the news yesterday of a Dutch online retailer outing the price and release date triggered minor celebrations throughout the corridors of PG Towers.

Alas, it appears that the price was pure speculation.

Bart Smit has revealed to Eurogamer Benelux that it has received no official word from Nintendo on either of the highly sought-after morsels of information, meaning its price/date announcement is about as reliable a source as our own guestimates.

Nintendo itself has also spoken out about the site, stating that any pricing or date for the new 3D console is ‘pure speculation’ and that it was still gauging reactions from E3 in order to plan its launch strategy.

Needless to say, the corridors of PG Towers are ominously quiet today.
