iPhone 4G screen to have resolution of 960x640?
|

As spotted by Engadget, Czech site superiphone.cz claims to have procured the iPhone 4G’s display and, rather than just take a few photos, went the extra mile by counting its pixels under the microscope.

Whilst the validity of this post isn’t corroborated, the detailed information and images are certainly enough to make it newsworthy.

The dedicated counters' main findings are that the screen is an IPS (in-plane switching) display like that of the iPad and, more interestingly, has a resolution of 960x640. This is double the resolution of current generation iPhones (and therefore quadruple the number of pixels), delivering 320 ppi, which is by far the highest pixel density of any phone yet produced.

If these conclusions are to be believed, rescaling current apps for the 4G will be an easy task, but un-optimised apps may look a little blurry on the exquisitely sharp screen (much like the effect seen when you run a non HD iPhone app on the iPad).

The other possibility is bordered gaming, but let’s hope we’re not about to return to the days of PAL port disappointment.
