Sony hints at download-only PSP 2, piracy still the 'biggest problem'

By all measures, the PSP Go hasn’t exactly blown away the competition since it launched last year, and it's still being consistently outsold by the standard PSP around the globe.

Despite this, Sony Australia’s managing director Michael Ephraim believes that the download-only machine will ‘blaze the trail for future iterations of the handheld’. Presumably he means the hotly anticipated PSP 2, rather than another edition of the PSP.

The reason for this apparent love for one of Sony’s worst selling ideas could be explained by comments made across the other pond in America by Rob Dyer, Sony America’s senior VP.

In a recent interview with Gamasutra, he spoke of piracy being ‘the biggest problem’ for Sony, and ominously stated that it was ‘going to fix retail’.

Whether or not fixing retail means a move more towards an iPhone-like device with no reliance on retail for its games distribution we’ll have to wait and see.
