Games make up around a third of iPad top grossing chart
Don't dominate top 20 or free chart however
While the iPad launch can be considered a relative success with 300,000 devices, 1 million apps and 250,000 books sold within the first 24 hours, the medium term issue of how it will be used remain.
While games make up around a third of the iPad top paid apps chart, they certainly don't dominate as with iPhone and iPod touch.
The highest rated game is Firemint's Real Racing HD at #5 in the US chart, while EA Mobile's Scrabble is #7, and Firemint's Flight Control HD is at #10.
In terms of a more general breakdown, there are only four games in the paid apps top 20 (versus eight in the top grossing top 20).
There are 39 games in the paid 100 apps and 35 games in the top grossing top 100.
Freebie failure
What is more surprising though is how few games feature in the free app chart. Labyrinth 2 HD Lite is the highest rated game at #19, with Tap Tap Radiation at #21.
Of course, it could be argued this is due to the iPad launch audience - likely a different demographic to iPhone and iPod touch - downloading key one-off utilities such as iBooks and Netflix.
In addition, the vast majority of iPad games are reworked from iPhone versions and less exciting than they otherwise could have been.
