A study from Game Developer Research (GDR) has identified Apple’s iPhone as the most popular platform for mobile game development, with twice as many developers working on the system than for the PSP and DS.

Overall, three quarters of all mobile developers that responded to the survey are currently producing iPhone titles.

The popularity of the App Store for developers both established and new has also led to a significant increase in mobile gaming development as a whole, with the portable gaming market now consisting of 25 per cent of all game development, up from 12 per cent the year before.

With developers coming out in droves to praise the new iPad, expect Apple’s dominance of the handheld market to continue for the foreseeable future.
