Motion sensing rumoured for Apple tablet

Natal-like technology through the built-in camera?

Motion sensing rumoured for Apple tablet

The tension building around Apple's announcement this evening - beginning at 6PM GMT, with Pocket Gamer in attendance and live blogging the event - is almost too much now, with rumours running wild as the media over analyses ever word spoken about the possible Big Apple tablet.

Kotaku's Brian Crecente has been pondering a passing comment made to The New York Times by 'a recently departed Apple employee' who said "You will be very surprised how you interact with the new tablet".

Combining this with the talk of a built-in, forward facing camera, speculation over motion sensing controls has been raised - not unlike Microsoft's Natal system for its Xbox 360. Letting our imaginations off the lead for a minute, this could potentially include non-touch controls for turning the pages of a digital newspaper or e-book, for example.

Stepping a little further back from reality, this could also include facial recognition, virtual 3D gesture controls (manipulating 3D objects onscreen as if they were in your hand), a real life rock, paper, scissors game, or even eye-tracking.

All very much on the fringes of reality, but it's a fascinating thought. Join us tonight at 6PM GMT to find out.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
