In keeping with its new push for social gaming, iPhone publisher ngmoco has made its first major acquisition, buying Miraphonic, the developer of iPhone and Facebook online game Epic Pet Wars.

No details of the deal were provided other than a tweet from ngmoco CEO Neil Young saying: “Delighted to announce that Miraphonic, creators of the awesome Epic Pet Wars have been acquired by ngmoco!”

Epic Pet Wars is a virtual training and fighting animal game which Miraphonic claims has over one million users. It’s free to download but makes its money via the sales of the game’s in-app currency Respect Points, which cost anything from 59p to £23.99.

Miraphonic also has a similar game, Epic Soldier Wars.

The deal is part of ngmoco’s strategy to expand its focus from purely iPhone to other social networks: something it recently underlined with the recruitment of former MySpace SVP of business development, Jason Oberfest.
