Speaking at the International CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment convention, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed a treasure chest of iPhone and mobile gaming awesomeness, though it rather peculiarly failed to mention the possibility of these games coming to the PSP.

Admittedly, this is technically a different company from the PlayStation brand, but you'd expect some kind of inter-corporate cooperation, given that they all fly the Sony flag.

Anyway, what's important is that a new slate of film-based games has been announced for a variety of smartphone platforms, including Blackberry, Palm Pre and, of course, iPhone.

Among the big screen names coming to the small, smart, pocket screens are The Three Stooges (which apparently isn't anything to do with the new Stooges movie that's in the works), a Karate Kid game scheduled to tie in with Jackie Chan's Kung Fu Kid remake, an adaptation of the Angelina Jolie espionage thriller Salt, and a new as yet untitled James Bond: 007 game.

All these games are expected to roll out in 2010, in accord with Sony's movie arm's intention to release around six games per year based on TV and movie properties.

This year, we've already seen mobile and handheld adaptations of Quantum of Solace, Angels & Demons, 2012 and Zombieland, and even though Sony Movies doesn't yet seem to be giving the PSP any attention, it's building itself an impressive reputation as a big license smartphone developer.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
