Silent Swords stalking the iPhone
The little black ninja is on the prowl
Argentinian developer Oniric Games has left a furtive message under our pillow during the night, to tell us that one of the iPhone's first real stealth games is sneaking through the shadows toward the App Store, called Silent Swords.
You step into the tabi boots of the Little Black Ninja, who's on a mission to sneak out of a top secret military base using his shadowy skills.
Silent Swords looks to play heavily on the stealth aspects of play, rather than any direct confrontations - taking out enemies unaware from the shadows using your swords, or nailing them with a shuirken from afar while avoiding the lights and using the environment for camouflage.
There's a strong graphical vibe from the NES version of Ninja Gaiden (if you're old enough to remember that one), which holds with Oniric's assertion that Silent Swords is "...inspired by the genre's classics," which hopefully suggests this could also be the stealth game that Metal Gear Solid Touch wasn't.
Topping things off, Oniric is preparing a competition to get user-designed Silent Swords levels into an update and allowing players to share their designs with the community.
The game has just been submitted to Apple, so will hopefully be with us soon.
