O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: 19th September

There's a subtle sporting undercurrent to this week's new releases, which seems to spill over into the charts a little, as well.

Fair enough, Mystic Meg isn't quite a centre fielder, but her new game promises to help you understand not only the universe, but your own sense of social compatibility. Personally I think she can take some of the fun out of the lottery, giving away the winning numbers like that, so learning to predict them yourself using Mystic Meg's Magic Numbers guide to numerology puts the sport back into playing the balls.

Where our sporting theme really jumps to attention is with Real Football 2009. This is the action packed companion to the recent Real Football Manager 2009 game that's currently climbing the charts, and the two titles are quite rightly proving to be a huge hit with mobile sportsmen. Not only do the games provide very different, but realistic sides to football simulation (management of the team and the kick-about itself) but they actually work together.

Your team from the brand new Real Football 2009 can be exported into Manager, allowing you to continue expanding and growing the players in the strategy environment. This makes for a dynamic combination of games, especially considering the Bluetooth multiplayer option, so you can play a game against someone further down the train on the way to work. The symbiotic nature of these two games undoubtedly means they'll be climbing the otherwise static charts together – giving it the shake-up it needs.

Pass the Pigs is a surreal take on the casino sports, using pigs instead of dice (not entirely dissimilar to the genuine rural sport of Champions League Cow Tipping (I just made that up)). And if you're not really the sporting/animal cruelty type, we've got Virtual Villagers to shore up the new releases; a game that looks to be something of a cartoony take on the classic Civilization (with a dash of Populous thrown in, perhaps?).

Otherwise, Bejeweled and Jewel Story II remain as immovable as ever in the charts, although Guitar Hero Mobile III has been surprisingly usurped by Platinum Solitaire – yet another pseudo-sporting title. I guess we're all starting to feel the nights creeping in, and have begun subconsciously taking to our mobiles for sporting exercise, instead.
