DS + PSP

DS sales remained strong in Japan this week, resulting in the handheld finishing it, once again, at the top of the hardware charts.

According to the latest figures from Media Create, DS sold 51,412 consoles during the week ending September 7th, and PSP just 34,462 (down from 41,664 the week previous). In fact, it was almost outsold by Nintendo's Wii, which shifted 33,128 units.

It looks like PSP might be relegated into second position then for the long-haul. Or at least, until PSP 3000 is released on the basis that it's what has caused the slump as people wait for the new model.

In related news, NPD results of US hardware sales for August are in, brought courtesy of industry news site, gi.biz. The DS success story is repeated there, with the handheld topping the list having sold 518,300 consoles throughout the month. Wii comes in second and PSP a respectable third with 253,000 sales.
