Bejeweled clocks up 25 million sales
The equivalent of six billion gaming hours, or three Euro MPs' pensions
The chaps at PopCap are throwing their jewel encrusted hats in the air as Bejeweled and Bejeweled 2 (pictured) racked up their 25 millionth sale.
In celebration, the game developer has taken its best mathematician and had them work up some staggering numbers related to this impressive sales figure in an effort to make pre-Bejeweled history seem insignificant. Here's a handful:
• One copy of Bejeweled (or Bejeweled 2) has sold every ten seconds
• The estimated equivalent of six billion gaming hours have been spent on Bejeweled
• 684,000 years of non-stop jewel swapping has gone on
• 60 people have been playing the game continuously since the end of the last ice age (give or take the odd flake of snow)
• If Ingvar Kamprad bought 320 million copies of Bejeweled, he'd be left earning the equivalent of the current minimum wage
Regardless of how much you might choose to challenge the 'facts' above, there's no denying that Bejeweled has served its creators and the gaming community well, and we hope it enjoys another 25 million sales before another ice age hits and people once again start playing Tetris.
