PSP power unlocked
Firmware update gives access to full CPU performance
We'd seen the rumours floating around last week but Sony has now confirmed that as of firmware 3.50, developers are able to use the full 333MHz speed of the PSP's CPU.
In practice, this effectively means technical enhancements such as improved frame rates and, potentially, better loading times.
The PSP had previously been locked at 266MHz as a way of conserving battery power, suggesting the move is related to the expected PSP redesign (said to offer considerably better battery life).
The new policy affects future titles and those currently in development. It does not apply retrospectively to already released games.
