God of War confirmed for PSP

PSP lovers are truly spoilt for news today. The latest is that God of War is definitely coming to the PSP (although a deluge of other PSP news has probably splattered itself all over the net in the time it took me to write this sentence). The project was confirmed by God of War II director Cory Barlog at yesterday's launch event for the PS2 game.

Barlog said the PSP version will have its own plot, aimed at fleshing out some of the backstory to what will be a single story arc across God of Wars one and two on the PlayStation 2, as well as the just-revealed third game being made for PlayStation 3.

And not only is the PSP getting a game of its own as opposed to a chop shop PS2 God of War lucky dip, but according to Barlog the game will be huge.

"It is epic," Barlog said at the launch event. "It is big. There are hooks in the PSP story that I actually wrote from one of my first stories for God of War 2, so there are a lot of elements – we're going to keep connecting all this stuff. To me, it's a persistent world... I want the PSP version to not feel like the PSP version... it's just as big. It's just as epic. It's God of War."

There are no screens or footage of the game yet, but Barlog did leak that there will be no re-used levels from any of the other home console games. The game doesn't have an official name yet either but an advertisement for it on the liner notes of God of War II does suggest that it will ship this year.

Maybe, just maybe it will even ship alongside a redesigned PSP.
