Arcade Reality is a new game for Palm Treo phones that uses streaming video from your camera to create the backgrounds, with virtual objects to shoot.

"This is the first game of its kind that combines the video camera capabilities of the phone with classic retro shooting action," says Chris Byatte, joint MD of the firm that runs Clickgamer.com, which is selling the game.

Weeeell, apart from that Mosquitos game that came out in, ooh, 2004. But we'll forgive the slight error, as there certainly haven't been many games since then that have made use of your phone's camera in a shoot-'em-up stylee.

It's got three playing modes. Arcade Reality mode sees you scored for your precision in blasting aliens, with the odd bonus level thrown in too. Infinite Shooter boils it down to simply killing everything that moves, while Asteroids mode is a camera-phone-enabled 3D version of the retro classic.

The game promises seven different alien types to shoot at, plus power-ups including rockets and shields to pick up along the way.

Arcade Reality works on the Treo 650, 680 and 700P phones. If you fancy a sneak preview, watch the video below.
