Sony has used this year's International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to announce a couple of PSP-related developments set to further bolster the handheld's already robust multimedia capabilities. First, the company's Connect music download service is to be relaunched, offering music, games, videos and films that can now be downloaded directly to the PSP.

Second, owners of Sony's handheld will soon benefit from compatibility with the company's LocationFree TV technology which enables the viewing of streamed audio/visual content and local broadcasts worldwide – all that's needed is a LocationFree base station (which connects to a PC, TV and now PSP) and an internet connection. By connecting to the base station using the PSP's LocationFree Player, users can then tune in to their favourite channels from any Wi-Fi point.

Details regarding content, pricing and launch dates are expected soon.
