E3 2011: Animal Crossing 3DS features camping, swimming, Zelda
Looks pretty in tents
Though it didn’t feature during Nintendo’s E3 press briefing, the company released a new trailer and assets for the forthcoming 3DS version of casual stalwart Animal Crossing.
Graphically similar to the recently Wii-released Let’s Go to the City – albeit with noticeably taller-looking avatars – the new game looks to follow the same relaxing approach of previous versions, but with a handful of new features.
It seems you will have increased redecoration options, with one character shown hanging a clock high on the wall, while another piece of footage shows a character emerging from a tent. Presumably, raccoon landlord Tom Nook is now providing cheaper accommodation.
Other sequences indicate that it’s possible to go swimming, as one character dives underwater – perhaps to visit a new undersea location, or (more likely, we feel) salvage items hidden beneath the waves.
Another brief snippet shows someone walking past what looks suspiciously like a beehive, while it seems the Zelda 25th anniversary celebrations will extend into this bucolic world, with one character changing into a Link outfit and reaching for a Master Sword.
No release date has been announced yet, but a late 2011 / early 2012 launch seems likely.
