Layering more complexity onto the basic Picross number-grid puzzler may not be everyone's idea of fun, but French developer Little Worlds Studio is expanding its coloured-Picross games with the release of Animal Color Cross for iPhone.

The sequel to its original Color Cross, it's a port of the game that's already been released on DSiWare.

As well as selecting which grid squares to fill in, you build up the image's colours as you select from the different palette layers.

Colour 'em all

With 72 animals split across eight geographical zones, and maxing out in eight colour, 20 by 25 grids, it's no surprise that over 50 hours of gameplay are promised if you have the dedication to complete the game.

Still, it's good value for its $1.99, €1.59 or £1.19 price, especially as the game's available at half price until July 15th.

You can see how it plays in the following video.
