In a world of casual and social mobile games, the ongoing success of the very manly 3D Hunting franchise continues to surprise.

Developer Machineworks Northwest has just dropped a heavy weapons IAP pack for the free Android version of the game, seeing a 400 percent boost in revenue.

Perhaps breaking the simulation realism, it seems that players were keen to target the likes of bear and elk using weapons such as the Colt Python, the M-4 assault rifle and rocket propelled grenades.

Big bangs best

"Our customers love big guns and we will give them more stuff to blow up - stay tuned," said Machineworks' CEO Andreas Vahsen.

The Alaskan Hunt version of the franchise has been downloaded over 1.6 million since its late December 2012 release.

Activity is given as 1 million monthly users with a total of 4 million game sessions per month.

More add-on packs are on the way and three more 3D Hunting- themed games are in production, added Vahsen.
